Flotsam and Jetsam - The Cold

Flotsam and Jetsam's 2010 release, "The Cold," is a standout effort in their extensive career, marking a significant return to form. Following their early thrash classics, the band delivers an album that successfully blends their signature sound with a more modern approach, proving that reinvention is possible even after decades in the music industry.

Album Significance: "The Cold" is widely regarded as Flotsam and Jetsam's best work since their legendary early albums. After a period of inconsistent output, this release, coinciding with a wave of back-catalogue re-releases and remastering, showcases the band at their peak. The production is polished, allowing the strength of the songwriting and the band's performance to shine through. Travis Smith's artwork provides a fitting visual complement to the music.

Musical Style and Standout Tracks: The album kicks off with "Hypocrite," a powerful and typical Flotsam heavy rocker that immediately signals an increased focus on song structure and delivery. The second track, "Take," fully immerses listeners in the band's revitalized style, perfectly complementing Eric A.K.'s distinctive and powerful vocals. The music incorporates elements from their 80s thrash roots alongside Nevermore-esque heavy riffs, creating a dynamic and engaging listening experience. The abundant guitar solos, particularly those from Ed Carlson, are a highlight. "The Cold" demonstrates Flotsam and Jetsam's ability to evolve while retaining their core identity, making it a satisfying listen for both long-time fans and new admirers of heavy metal.

This re-issue from Hammerheart Records, originating from Germany, presents "The Cold" on a single audio CD, featuring the band's compelling performance and songwriting.
