Liz Lawrence - Vespers [CD]

Experience Vespers, the brand-new album from British artist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Liz Lawrence. This is her second release with Chrysalis Records and her fifth overall album, following Peanuts, The Avalanche, Pity Party, and Bedroom Hero. Known as one of the UK's most quietly compelling indie storytellers, Lawrence delivers an unvarnished, spare, and elegiac record.

The Significance of Vespers

Vespers is an album deeply rooted in tragedy, serving as a record of life and death, devotion, and reflection. Lawrence wrote these songs in the aftermath of disaster, dedicating the work to her sister, Jessie, and her too-short life. She intends for the music to offer comfort and catharsis to listeners, stating, "I want people to come to this record. I want people to use this record. I want it to have purpose, to give comfort and catharsis." While deeply personal to her family's situation, the themes explored are universal.

Musical Tone and Content

The album wraps the harsh demands of life in the plain warmth of love. A notable track, the romantic and frank finale "Thank God For You," aims to provide the comfort and catharsis Lawrence hopes the entire record offers.
