Description
Jordi Savall conducts Robert Schumann’s oratorio Paradise und the Peri in this two-disc CD recording, featuring Le Concert des Nations and La Capella Nacional de Catalunya. It will interest listeners drawn to Romantic choral music and dramatic storytelling.
Inspired by Thomas Moore’s Lalla Rookh, the work follows the Peri’s quest for redemption through a warrior’s drop of blood, a lover’s sigh and a repentant sinner’s tear. Schumann’s score combines expansive choruses with intimate solo passages, and Savall’s interpretation brings out its emotional contrasts and poetic detail.
