Steve Martin stars as Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr (pronounced Hfuhruhurr), the world's most brilliant brain surgeon and inventor of screw-top, zip-lock brain surgery. After the tragic loss of his first wife, he marries the icy and manipulative Dolores Benedict (Kathleen Turner), who is more interested in his fortune than in love. While attending a medical conference in Austria, Dr. Hfuhruhurr meets fellow brain surgeon Dr. Necessiter (David Warner), who maintains a collection of living brains in his lab. When he discovers his wife's infidelity, he finds unexpected emotional connection with Brain 21 (voiced by Sissy Spacek), a sentient brain with whom he communicates telepathically. As Brain 21 begins to deteriorate, Dr. Hfuhruhurr embarks on a madcap quest to find her a new body—willing or not—leading to a wildly inventive and hilarious adventure.
