Greg Mendez - Beauty Land [Vinyl]

Greg Mendez delivers Beauty Land, his debut LP for Dead Oceans, showcasing an economical songwriting style that sharpens core truths through restraint and simplicity. Guided by a wry but forgiving narrator, this album balances cynicism and faith across carefully constructed altars of imperfection, channeled through pop melodies and urgent guitars.

The majority of Beauty Land was recorded directly to tape, almost entirely alone in Mendez’s makeshift home studio in Philadelphia. This intense, quiet clarity marks his songwriting best, picking up where his 2023 self-titled breakthrough left off by plumbing the depths of grief, love, and addiction. The record features 14 tracks, none exceeding three minutes, that explore themes of death and precariousness, utilizing elements like the chiming toy piano on “Gentle Love” and the devastating simplicity of “Frog.”
