Frederick Ashton's La Fille mal gardee [Blu-ray]

Experience Frederick Ashton's beloved ballet, La Fille mal gardee, brought to life in this stunning Blu-ray edition. Inspired by Jean Dauberval's original French ballet, Ashton's 1960 interpretation captures the joyous spirit of village life with exuberant good humour and affectionate portrayals. The Royal Ballet's Founder Choreographer, Frederick Ashton, envisioned a 'leafy pastoral of perpetual sunshine...the suspended stillness of a Constable landscape of my beloved Suffolk, luminous and calm,' a vision beautifully realized with Osbert Lancaster's colourful designs.

Follow the story of Lise, the daughter of Widow Simone, who dreams of marrying the young farmer Colas. Her mother, however, has grander plans, intending to marry her to the wealthy Alain. Lise must cleverly outwit her mother's ambitions to secure her love with Colas.
