The James Taylor Quartet - Te Deum [CD]

A Radical New Direction in Jazz Fusion

Keyboard maestro James Taylor celebrates his 40th year leading The James Taylor Quartet by re-signing with their original label, Acid Jazz, and embarking on some of his most radical projects yet. Following his classical exploration in ‘Shadows and Dreams,’ Te Deum brings the Quartet together for a remarkable new album that sets the ancient, 4th-century Christian text to intense jazz, funk, and Latin grooves.

Artistic Collaboration

This ambitious recording features the James Taylor Quartet collaborating with the children of the Benenden Chapel Choir, a guest horn section, and legendary Acid Jazz percussionist Snowboy. The resulting sound is a vibrant fusion of styles, showcasing Taylor's continued innovation.

Musical Highlights

The lead track, ‘Have Mercy On Us,’ uniquely blends Brazilian samba rhythms with Gregorian chants. Listeners will also discover ‘The Comforter,’ which evokes a Donald Byrd-esque Blue Note Records experiment featuring vocalists, and the radio favorite ‘Wildflower,’ which mixes bossa nova with sunshine pop harmonies.
