Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is een culinair vernuft met het gastronomische equivalent van perfect pitch. Wanneer Hassan en zijn familie, onder leiding van Papa (Om Puri), verhuizen naar een schilderachtig dorpje in Zuid-Frankrijk met het grootse plan om een Indiaas restaurant te openen op het schilderachtige platteland, laten ze zich niet afschrikken door het feit dat er slechts 30 meter tegenover staat een klassiek Frans eetcafé met Michelin-ster.
Maar bij het ontmoeten van de ijzige eigenares, Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), realiseert de familie Kadam zich dat ze misschien meer hebben afgebeten dan ze kunnen kauwen. Madame Mallory is verontwaardigd over de nieuwkomers en is vastbesloten om hun bedrijf te sluiten.
Terwijl culturen botsen en eten vliegt, escaleert een verhitte strijd tussen de twee etablissementen - totdat Hassans passie en talent voor de Franse keuken Madame Mallory beginnen te betoveren en zelfs zij kan niet ontkennen dat deze jonge chef-kok het in zich heeft nog meer lof voor haar geliefde restaurant.
