Born in Wales, Karl Jenkins studied the oboe and graduated from Cardiff University, followed by post-graduate studies at London's Royal College of Music. He was a member of the jazz-rock bands Nucleus and Soft Machine, which influenced his compositional style. Awarded a CBE in 2010, Jenkins' music combines classical, jazz, and world music elements, making him one of the most accessible and celebrated contemporary composers.
