Depuis 2008, Matthew Halsall a sorti sept enregistrements en studio acclamés par la critique et a été une figure clé de l'essor d'un nouveau son de jazz au Royaume-Uni. En plus de ses propres sorties, il a collaboré avec de nombreux DJ et producteurs, notamment DJ Shadow et Mr Scruff.
Color Yes (2009) était la deuxième sortie de Halsall et documente ses premiers grands groupes avec le flûtiste Chip Wickham, le saxophoniste Nat Birchall, la harpiste Rachael Gladwin, le bassiste Gavin Barras et le batteur Gaz Hughes.
Un album joyeux et enrichissant, s'inspirant du jazz britannique et des influences du jazz spirituel mais avec un rebond résolument moderne, il a présenté la musique de Halsall au monde en recueillant le soutien de Gilles Peterson et Jamie Cullum, Mojo, Straight No Chaser et au-delà.
Mais Halsall n'a jamais été complètement satisfait de la façon dont le disque a été présenté et, dans le cadre du 10e anniversaire de Gondwana Records, a décidé de revisiter le disque, en le remixant et en le remasterisant méticuleusement pour le vinyle et en commandant de nouvelles illustrations à Ian Anderson, l'un de ses designers préférés.
Color Yes présente les titres bonus frappants "It's What We Do" et "Ai".
